Protecting Members: Continued COVID-19 Coverage and Measles Mitigation

Health Choice Utah will continue covering COVID-19 vaccinations for both adults and children as a routine immunization benefit. We recognize ongoing ambiguity in current federal recommendations; however, our coverage policy remains unchanged, so members can continue to access vaccinations without interruption.

If a patient is 65 or older, or under 65 with certain medical conditions (e.g., heart, lung, or kidney disease; diabetes; immunocompromise; pregnancy), they can receive a COVID-19 vaccine at Utah pharmacies under current DOPL guidance—without a prescription or the need for a formal primary care appointment.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION: Please review the CDC list of qualifying conditions for receiving a COVID-19 vaccination. Many pharmacists may discuss and administer the vaccine without restriction. A provider order or documentation of “shared decision-making" is not required to receive the COVID-19 vaccination. Some pharmacies may ask patients to review and complete a questionnaire discussing the risks and benefits of vaccines.

Measles activity is rising in Utah (20 cases statewide as of September 8). To protect infants and under-immunized patients, Health Choice Utah covers MMR vaccination starting at age 6 months and older when indicated (e.g., outbreak, exposure, travel), with continuation of the routine schedule afterward for those 1 year and older.

Thank you for your continued partnership and for the care you provide every day. We appreciate the time and clinical judgment you invest to keep our members healthy—especially as guidance evolves and operational demands grow. Your commitment to prevention and timely vaccinations directly protects our communities, and we’re grateful for your ongoing collaboration with Health Choice Utah.
